The Qur'an states the manners of supplication and God's promise to respond.
The manners of du'ā
- Sincerity & privacy: "Call upon your Lord humbly and in private" (7:55); "in a low voice" (7:205).
- God is near: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you" (40:60); "I am near" (2:186).
- By the beautiful names: "To God belong the most beautiful names; call upon Him by them" (7:180; 17:110).
- The worth of du'ā: "My Lord would not care for you were it not for your supplication" (25:77).
Example supplications from the Qur'an
- "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter…" (2:201)
- "Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or err…" (2:286)
